Adapting an On-Demand Services App for a New Market: Khidma Plus
How we localized an on-demand handyman services app for the UAE market, with dynamic translation, OTP autofill, and workflow changes that matched local expectations.
Licensing software is the easy part
A UAE-based client came to us having already licensed an off-the-shelf on-demand services solution for booking handyman work. The codebase existed. What did not exist yet was a product that actually matched how their local market books, pays for, and trusts a home services app.
This is a common gap in on-demand service app development: the platform works technically, but the workflow, language, and sign-in experience were built for a different market and it shows.
Localization beyond translated strings
Real localization is more than a language toggle. It touches how people sign in, how they book, and how the business itself actually operates.
- Dynamic, in-app language translation built as a real part of the experience, not a bolted-on toggle
- OTP autofill for fast, friction-free sign-in, which matters more in markets where users expect mobile-first onboarding
- Customized booking and service-request flows matched to how the client's business actually operates
Adapting a codebase instead of rebuilding it
The existing Laravel and Flutter codebase was solid enough to build on. Rather than a ground-up rebuild, we worked directly inside the licensed platform: customizing workflows, layering in UI enhancements across both the customer and provider-facing apps, and shipping the changes needed to make it feel native to its actual market.
The project was delivered in one month, which is realistic for this kind of engagement: adapting proven software to a specific market is almost always faster than starting from zero, provided the underlying codebase is worth building on.
iOS and Android, built primarily in Flutter for one clean codebase.
