How Much Does It Cost to Develop an App in 2026?

Real app development costs in 2026 by app type, from simple MVPs to dating, on-demand and live streaming apps, plus what drives the price and how to keep it down.

The short answer

Most apps we build cost between US$1,000 and US$12,000 (roughly CA$1,400 to CA$16,500). A simple MVP that proves an idea sits at the low end. A platform with several apps, real-time features and an admin panel sits at the high end.

You will find much higher figures online, often US$50,000 to US$300,000 or more from large agencies. Those numbers are real too; they reflect bigger teams and more overhead. We are a young company building our reputation, so we price well below that. Below are the ranges we actually quote, broken down by the kind of app you are building.

App development cost by complexity

Every final quote comes after a short scoping call, because two apps with the same description can need very different amounts of work.

  • Simple app or MVP, iOS and Android from one Flutter codebase: US$1,000 to US$2,500 (about CA$1,400 to CA$3,400)
  • App with its own backend, user accounts and admin panel: US$2,500 to US$6,000 (about CA$3,400 to CA$8,200)
  • Complex platform with several apps and real-time features: US$6,000 to US$12,000 and up (about CA$8,200 to CA$16,500 and up)

App development cost by app type

These ranges are based on apps we have actually built, so you can see what each type involves.

  • MVP to test a startup idea: US$1,000 to US$2,500. One app, core features only, built to learn from real users fast
  • On-demand services app (handyman, cleaning, home services): US$1,500 to US$3,500. Usually a customer app, a provider app and an admin panel, like the Khidma Plus app we localized for the UAE
  • Dating app with matching, chat and verification: US$1,500 to US$3,500. Our Sparsha app adds voice and face verification on top
  • Live streaming app with calling, rooms and reels: US$2,000 to US$5,000 and up, because real-time video adds infrastructure and moderation
  • Event ticketing app: US$1,500 to US$3,500 for attendee, organizer and scanner apps sharing one backend
  • Restaurant ordering or food delivery app: US$1,500 to US$3,500, depending on whether delivery drivers and a POS are included
  • Expense tracker or other utility app: US$1,000 to US$3,000, more if it includes cloud sync and team accounts

What drives the cost of an app

The biggest single factor is usually the number of separate apps and user roles, not the number of screens.

  • Number of apps: a customer app, a provider or driver app, and an admin panel are three products, not one
  • Real-time features: video calls, live streaming, chat and live order tracking need extra infrastructure and testing
  • Payments and integrations: payment gateways, maps, SMS and third-party APIs each add work
  • User verification and safety: identity checks, moderation tools and reporting add cost but are essential for social apps
  • Offline support: apps that must keep working without internet need local storage and sync logic
  • Design: a fully custom design costs more than a clean, component-based interface

Why Flutter keeps app costs down

We build most apps in Flutter, which ships iOS and Android from a single codebase. Instead of paying for two separate native apps, you pay to build one, and every later fix and update is made once. For most business apps this cuts both the build cost and the yearly maintenance cost significantly, without a noticeable difference for users.

Costs after launch

We cover maintenance costs in detail in our guide to how much it costs to maintain an app.

  • Maintenance and support: typically US$60 to US$400 per month
  • Hosting and backend services: usually US$20 to US$300 per month for a small to mid-sized app
  • App store accounts: US$99 per year for Apple, a one-time US$25 for Google Play
  • Usage-based services such as SMS, video, maps and push notifications

How to keep your app budget under control

Start with the smallest version that proves your idea, launch it to real users, and let their behaviour decide what to build next. Most successful apps we have shipped began as focused MVPs. Ask for a fixed-scope quote with clear milestones, separate your must-have features from nice-to-haves, and choose a team that will support the app after launch. Rebuilding a half-finished app with a new team is almost always the most expensive path.
